As part of Newbridge College Amber Flag Initiative, the school will have
a number of events happening for Mental Health Awareness Week. There
will be a variety of speakers giving their expertise and experiences to
all years and encouraging all pupils to look after their mental health
and talk about their fears and anxieties. They will also pass on
strategies to cope in times of stress but more importantly how best to
manage day to day life and still find time to look after their own
Speakers will include past pupil Eanna Walsh, Fionnbar Walsh (father of the late Donal Walsh), Seamus Hennessy (inter-county hurler and speaker on mental health awareness) and Fergal D'Arcy (Today FM DJ).
With this in mind the College want to help introduce the students to new and alternative means of looking after your mental health. There will be a number of different workshops and activities available to both staff and students throughout the week, for example, Body Mind Balancing, circuit training, yoga, nutrition talk, time management skills workshop. These are activities that students may not come across on a regular basis and Mental Health Awareness week is a wonderful opportunity to try them and see if its something they’d like to try again but also see if they pick up some valuable life skills along the way.
The focus of this week also will be to communicate the 5 elements of the "Cycle Against Suicide" campaign:
These will be done through the variety of activities mentioned above. The links to these activities below, will give you information on each of the activities on offer and if you have the promo code you can book a time-slot that suits in the activity that interests you.
