Concern debate Winners smallAll Ireland Concern Debating Champions

Congratulations to the Newbridge College team of Grainne Carr, Chloe O’Reilly, Ciara Maher and Jeff Hovenden Keane and their mentors, Ms Catherine Kelly and Ms. Deirdre Murphy on their fantastic win in the Concern Debates National Final over Árd Scoil Mhuir, Corbally in a thrilling contest.

The motion was ‘The international community must now take military action to topple the regime in Syria’. One hundred and twenty schools took part in the competition. This is a magnificent achievement for all involved.

French Debate WinnersFrench All Ireland Debaters

Newbridge College has been involved in French debating since 2007 and over the years has made it to at least the quarter final stage.  This year our team of Olivia O’Neill Brown, Sam Russell, Robert O’Neill , and captain Róisín Flynn, pictured here with Pat Cox and mentor Ms. Jane Mitchell, made it through five rounds before reaching the all Ireland final on the 29th April, where they debated the motion ‘The European dream has failed’ against Loreto College, St Stephen’s Green in the National Library.

Over the course of the year, the team have worked extremely hard and have shown great dedication and cooperation.   Not only have they become fantastic individual debaters and a formidable team but they are a great source of pride for their school.
