Five Newbridge College athletes competed in the All Ireland Schools Athletics Championships on Saturday the 1st if June in Tullamore.First into action was Paddy Taylor in the Junior Boys Javelin. He completed an excellent series of five throws, inclusive of a new Personal Best with a 600gm javelin of 41.95 metres, to take Bronze. Next up was MIchelle Cashman in the Junior Girls High Jump who improved her Personal Best during an excellent competition from 1.55mts to 1.58mts to secure Bronze. Michelle has made huge progress in the last six weeks and can look forward to the rest of her season with huge enthusiasm. Hannah Wilson threw Discus up an age grade from U16 to Inter Girls. Although at a huge physical and experience disadvantage Hannah threw really well finishing 4th overall and can now really look forward to the Tailteann Games and next years Schools Season with huge confidence. Sophie Byrne competed in the Minor Girls Long Jump. In what was her third ever long jump competition! Sophie recovered brilliantly from a shaky start to finish sixth overall, gaining invaluable competition experience while jumping to a very high standard. Well done Sophie. Finally Kate Nurse competed in the Senior Girls 1500mts. In a great race Kate produced an outstanding finish to claim Silver a well deserved ward for a great competitor and sports ambassador for the College. All five College athletes did themselves and the Colllege proud, adding to the growing reputation of the athletics programme in the School.
