Free Upcoming Talks For Parents

The following information is about a series of free talks for parents, teachers and those working with children with more significant needs. 

Helping primary school children with issues such as Dyspraxia, Aspergers, ADHD / ADD prepare to transition to secondary school.
Dorothy Armstrong will host an evening that is aimed at parents, teachers and those who work with this population.  It will cover issues such as:

•        fears and anxieties relating to your child transitioning – the parent’s perspective

•        Helping the child prepare for the transition

•        Strategies to promote inclusion once they are there
Dorothy is an Occupational Therapist with a private practice in Maynooth.  She has both a degree and a Masters and is currently studying towards a PhD in the area of dyspraxia.  She is also a lecturer in occupational therapy at the National University of Galway. Lecture is free of charge and open to everyone.

Study Skills for children and teenagers with Dyslexia and/or Dyspraxia

Dorothy Armstrong will host an evening that is aimed at parents, teachers and those who work with this population.  It will cover issues such as:

•        Issues that can make study difficult

•        Practical strategies to improve study habits and skills

•        Technology that can assist.
Dorothy is an Occupational Therapist with a private practice in Maynooth.  She has both a degree and a Masters and is currently studying towards a PhD in the area of dyspraxia.  She is also a lecturer in occupational therapy at the National University of Galway.  Lecture is free of charge and open to everyone.

Helping children and teens with Aspergers to make friends

Dorothy Armstrong will host a talk which is aimed at parents, teachers and other people who work with this population.  It will cover issues such as:

 *   Understanding developmental stages in relation to forming friendships
 *   Exploring the obstacles that can be faced by these children/teens when making friends
 *   Methods for enabling friendship development.

Workshop for primary school teachers
Inclusive practice for educating children with conditions such as Dyspraxia, Asperger’s syndrome, and ADHD

Dorothy Armstrong will host a 2 hour workshop aimed at primary school teachers, resource teachers, learning support teachers and Special needs assistants.  It will cover issues such as:

•        Issues that can be challenging

•        Practical strategies to promote inclusion

•        Sensory processing and helping a child regulate.
Dorothy is an Occupational Therapist with a private practice in Maynooth.  She has both a degree and a Masters and is currently studying towards a PhD in the area of dyspraxia.  She is also a lecturer in occupational therapy at the National University of Galway.
Athy Wednesday  25th April 3.45 – 5.45pm Leixlip Wednesday 16th May 3.30 – 5.30pm


The workshop is limited to 20 places in Athy and 30 in Leixlip and is available to resource teachers, learning support teachers and classroom teachers in primary schools. Availability is limited to 2 places per school.
