Newbridge College V Mount Anville 0-1 Despite the result our Senior 1 hockey team turned out a great performance against a very strong Mount Anville team in the first round of the Senior Cup last week. The Newbridge girls defended very well in the first half against an attacking Mount Anville with goalie Moya Carpenter pulling off some superb saves. Our mid-field players of Louise Quinn, Eimear Harney and Sarah Kyne worked tirelessly along with our defenders Sarah Kavanagh, Grainne Ryan, Ei
Newbridge College restarted very well and were by far the better team in the second half; a frustrated Mount Anville could not get close to the Newbridge College goal. Substitutes Ruth McGovern & Ciara Reynolds both made an impact when they came on. Our forwards Laura Doyle, Aoife Ryan & Tara Mooney repeatedly attacked the Mount Anville goals but were unlucky each time. An inspired run from the backs by Louise Quinn set off an attack that went just wide of the posts. This lifted the team and instigated new life into the match. In the dying few minutes of the game Eimear Harney took a sideline free at the 25 yard line, it was picked up by Aoife Ryan whose shot narrowly missed the goal.
Although the result went against us, the Newbridge College Senior Hockey team showed great skill & determination and will certainly be a force to be reckoned with next season. Their school & coaches are all very proud of them. The Seniors are now through to the Plate and will play Teresians at home in the coming weeks.
