Roscrea 7 Newbridge 17
Newbridge made it three wins out of three in this Junior League match amidst difficult conditions in Tipperary. The game was a stop start affair with both teams finding it hard to find any real rhythm. A sustained period of Newbridge pressure eventually yielded a try. Scrum half Timmy Murphy spotted an absent Roscrea full back to chip over the top for Ruairi Cleary to convert. Gavin Burke added the extra two and then a penalty five minutes later gave the Newbridge men breathing space. However an uncharacteristic defensive slip by Newbridge gave Roscrea an unopposed run to the line to make it 10-7 at the break. Newbridge started the second half with a bang. Great work at the breakdown by Colm Stapleton coughed the ball up to Mike Joyce to restore Newbridge’s ten point advantage. It was to be the last score of the game. Playing against a stiff breeze Newbridge found themselves defending for most of the second half which they did manfully. Best on the day for Newbridge were Colm Stapleton, Gavin Burke and Ruairi Cleary.
