A small group of athletes forsook the delights of Punchestown's Ladies Day for a wet and windy Scanlon Park
on Friday and returned with a very acceptable medal haul. Michael Healion led the charge with a gun to tape win in the Boys' under 16 Mile, taking the Gold with over 40m to spare. Sinead Lawler's twin Bronzes could have been so much better but for unluckily catching the fourth last Hurdle which robbed her of a win in the Senior 100m Hurdles; she had still not recovered when she went to the start again in the 100 Sprint, but dug deep to record another third place. Gearoid Ryan brought in a very creditable second place in the Senior High Jump in very blustery conditions, while Darragh McConville fought hard to take third place in the 110m Hurdles. Outside the medal winners Billy Delaney and Eoin Rafter narrowly missed out on the podium, both finishing fourth in the finals of their respective events (Inter 200m and Senior 100m), while both Eoin Rafter and Katlyn McDonnell can both be proud of their efforts in 100m Senior and Intermediate 800m respectively.
