The long trip to Galway for the penultimate leg of the Hoofprints league was very worthwhile for the College.
The black team Alyssa O'Neill, Leanne O'Sullivan, Carolyn Harty and Ashley O'Sullivan were the only team to finish on a zero score, thus winning the competition outright. Our other Newbridge team claimed 5th place. The team members were Aisling Doyle, Hannah McDonnell, Emily Higgins and Clare Manning. In the individual competition Ashley O'Sullivan came 2nd and Carolyn came 4th. This result gives Newbridge 6 outright wins in the league. This is the first time in the league history that this has happened.
Our Senior Cup Team hosted Castleknock in the semi-final of this year’s Leinster Senior Plate on Saturday morning for a place in the final against Clongowes next Wednesday. We were always in control of the game and led 15:0 at half time. We eventually went on to run out winners on a scoreline of 23 points to nil.
Our Junior Cup Team hosted Clongowes in the semi final of the Leinster Plate in the College last Wednesday and met a team who were high on confidence having recorded a 56:17 win in the quarter final round. We had a nightmare start conceding a try virtually from the kick off followed by a second before the clock have reached 10 minutes. From there on we gave a much better account of ourselves and held the game scoreless for the rest of the half. In the second the Clane school scored a great try to end the game as a contest but the College boys battled hard til the end. Clongowes scored once more before the end to leave the final score 28:0.
