We start this week by saying hard luck but congratulations to our Senior Rugby team who
exited the Leinster Senior Schools Cup at the hands of a very strong Blackrock college team last Wednesday. The entire team can be very proud of their performance especially in the first half which saw us leading by 8 points to 5 at the break. Blackrock did play better in the second half but were still made to work extremely hard for each point they scored. A full report on this game should appear elsewhere in these pages.
In the final group game in the league, the Newbridge Minor A’s put in a fantastic performance to comprehensively beat their opponents 4-0.
Once the teams settled after a frantic opening 5 minutes, Newbridge started stringing some excellent passes together, particularly Aisling Lawlor, Nicky Dowling and Muireann Scully in midfield. They were quickly rewarded for their efforts with 2 well taken goals from Lynn Phelan and another from Muireann Scully. In the 2nd half Sophie scored from a composed short corner to put the team 4-0 up. Player of the match for Newbridge was Jill Browne who put in a commanding performance in defense in her first game as sweeper. Hopefully the team can continue with more success in the 2nd round of the Minor Cup next Wednesday.
Congratulations to the girls U19 soccer team, who had a fantastic win yesterday against Pipers Hill, final score 7-2. Scorers were Rachel Phelan 3 goals, Heather Meagher 2 goals, Jenny O’Driscoll 1 goal, Jenny O’Neill 1 goal. A great game was had by all. The team now goes through to the League final.
Congratulations to the Newbridge team which won the Mount Sackville Interschools Show Jumping Competition on Sunday the 30th January. The team members were Ashley O’Sullivan, Emily Beere, Carolyn Harty and Alyssa O'Neill. Congratulations also to our other team who finished 5th in the same competition. The team members were Maedhbh Brassil, Megan Flanagan, Hayley Banahan and Karen Casey.
