Dominican Tournament 2016
Santa Sabina hosted this year’s annual meeting of the Dominican schools and it was another very enjoyable day for all concerned.

Our squads assembled early on Friday morning to load up for the trip to Swords.
In the hockey tournament, we did extremely well, winning all their games in the group stages before beating Taylor’s Hill in the semi final to reach the final. And in the final, they were neck and neck throughout and the winners had to be decided by penalty flicks. Unfortunately, it would prove one step too far for the girls who just missed out on victory.
In the soccer event, once again our girls showed great determination and commitment. In the group stages, we won twice and drew twice also without conceding a single goal. This set up a semi final, in which we were very unlucky to lose 1 nil. Well done to all the girls who took part.
Finally, a young and brave panel of eight 2nd year girls competed in the basketball competiton which kicked off against Griffith Ave. The Newbridge side threw themselves into the game and despite a heavy defeat they secured some impressive scores from Therese Gallagher and Ellie Henry. Their second meeting was against Cabra. Again the young Newbridge students bravely faced their leggy opponents. This time Rose Donohue gave a delightful display of her scoring ability. The third and final encounter was against Ballyfermot and at this point the Newbridge side were well ready to nail their first victory. Therese Gallagher played a blinder, scoring yet another basket after the opposition grabbed the lead within the final two minutes of the game. Victory to this young team was well deserved. Santa Sabina were overall victors of this exciting tournament.
Newbridge College Team: Victoria Chanders, Anna Young, Ciara O Beirne, Ellie Henry, Therese Gallagher, Ivana Dempsey, Rose Donohue, Caoimhe Brinkley.
