Sports Roundup Friday 20th October 2017
The Senior 1st XV traveled to Dublin 6 on Saturday to take on
Terenure. Terenure dominated territory, and had the lion’s share of
possession, in the the first half but a solid defensive performance from
the College saw a 0-3 scoreline at half time.
The second half saw the College have more time in their opponents half but Terenure showed their defensive capabilities to keep the College out. A counter attack try and an earlier penalty pushed Terenure's lead to 11-0. The College never gave up and with seconds left they were eventually rewarded with a Cian Prendergast try converted by Sam Cahill. Notable mentions also go to Oisin Halpin and Dan O'Connor.
The Senior 2nd XV also traveled and again showed a great defensive effort in the first half and trailed 7-nil at half time despite a strong Terenure attack. The second half saw a more even game in attack but as the game wore on it was the Dublin side who managed to make their attacks pay. In the end they would run out 24-0 winners. Notable mentions go to Mark Moynihan and Zack O'Reilly.
Junior B Early Season Catch Up
Newbridge College Junior B squad have been very active for the last few weeks with away fixtures against St. Mary's and Castleknock; and a home game against St. Gerard's.
Performances have been good but wins have been difficult to come by since the opening day of the season. Newbridge have been slow starters in the last few games allowing opposition teams to get ahead. However, when they have kicked into gear they are very dangerous and have caused major trouble.
This slow start has been the cause of some defeats; St. Mary's blitzed the opening fifteen minutes with four unanswered tries before Newbridge reacted and on Wednesday last St. Gerard's had fourteen points on the board before Newbridge got going. Good offloading and combined play brought Newbridge back into Wednesday's game and they were only seven points down at half time following a try and conversion from Calum Corcoran and Sam Prendergast. Unfortunately Newbridge couldn't bridge the gap in the second half with both teams scoring tries to leave the scored Newbridge College 12 - St. Gerards 19. Best on the day were Patrick Treacy, John Henry, Fiachra Galvin and John Egan.
Newbridge now look forward to an away trip against CBC Monkstown next week.
