Sports Roundup Friday 23rd October 2014
Congratulations to 3rd Year Rachel Mc Mullen who has been
called for an Irish U16 Trial following her performances for Leinster
over the weekend at the U16 Hockey Interprovincials.
Leinster won the inter-pro title over the weekend too and clearly Rachel impressed in the games. This is a massive achievement for Rachel and we all wish her the very best of luck in the trials.RUGBYJunior League: Newbridge College 36 St Andrew's 13
A dominant display from the JCT pack meant that Newbridge left with all five points in this league encounter. Great early opportunism from Karmon Fitzgerald gave Newbridge an early lead. Newbridge then took over for the next fifteen minutes playing some great phase rugby. Ben Howlett made a great individual break in midfield to score the second. Dylan Morrissey, Conor Lowen and Luke Brophy continued to ask questions of the St Andrew's ruck defence and were rewarded with a Thomas Grant break and try. Some Newbridge indiscipline just before the break gave St Andrew's six points from two penalties. Newbridge started the second half strongly with Conn Creedon and Greg O’Neill running in tries. Newbridge made substitutions as the game progressed with Jack and Tom Doyle shining from the bench. Best on the day for Newbridge were Dylan Morrissey, Ben Howlett and Man of the Match Thomas Grant. The team now looks forward to a top of the table decider against King's Hospital after the midterm break.Inters v CBC Monkstown
Newbridge College's Inter A's and B's travelled to CBC Monkstown this week. Both Newbridge teams had very good performances and we're too strong for CBC. Newbridge A's captained by Ryan Leahy ran out 43 - 19 winners with tries coming from Ro Burns (4), Jack Ryan, Thomas Sheedy & Alex Buckley.Daniel Caulfield and Oisin Halpin both converted 2 tries each. Players that stood out were Rory Cross, Ro Burns, Thomas Sheedy, David Higgins and Harry QuirkeNewbridge Inter B's finished with a scoreline of 35 - 7.
Tries were scored by Sean Murphy (3) & Jack Carroll (2) with Jack Carroll converting all 5. Players that stood out were Sean Barrett, Sean Murphy, Killian Corless, Fionn Walsh and Jack Carroll.Eller A v CBC Monkstown
The Eller As played host to CBC Monkstown in their last game before the Mid Term. The team were very keen to get back to winning ways after a disappointing result the previous week and they tore into the opposition right from the first whistle. Quick-fire tries in the opening stages from Jamie Gaire and Max Byrne put us 14-0 up inside ten minutes. The dominance continued for the rest of the half and a Conor Mc Groary double along with a Sam Cahill try left the home side well in control at the break. The second half continued in a similar fashion with John Shanahan and Mc Groary scoring early tries before CBC got on the scoresheet for the first time after a good kick in behind was claimed by their pacy centre. The home team kicked on again and Marcus Kiely scored a fine individual try when he raced away from half way and stepped past the last defender. Cahill notched his second soon after, when he caught the defence napping with a quick tap. Kiely rounded off an excellent performance when he crashed over from short range right on full time.Final score Newbridge 55 - 5 CBC Other Results:
