Sports Roundup Friday 27th March 2015
Our girls travelling to Dominican College Muckross to take
part in the annual Dominical Tournament last Thursday and all had a
great day out.
We competed in all three competitions which are in hockey, Soccer and Basketball. While we didn’t manage to lift a trophy on the day, all three teams reached the semi final stages in each sport.
The hockey team played in a round robin event and beat DC Cabra 2:0 and drew 0:0 with Santa Sabina. We lost to Muckross who went on to win the hockey event. In the Soccer, we beat Griffith Ave 2:0, Ballyfermot 5:0 to reach the semi-finals. In the semi, we were beaten by All Ireland Champions Taylor’s Hill of Galway 2:0. We also went on to win the event. In the Basketball, we beat Ballyfermot en route to the semi finals where we were beaten by Muckross. All in all, everyone had a great day and many thanks to Muckross for hosting the event this year.

Newbridge College Inter A's were hosting Kilkenny College in their final game of the season this week. The opening half saw a very tentative Newbridge, compared to what we have become so accustomed to in recent games. Zack O' Reilly did cross for Newbridge midway through the half but this proved to be the only score of the half.
The second half saw a very different Newbridge side who were far more aggressive in defence and direct in attack. Newbridge's second score came shortly after the break. Some excellent team work created the opportunity for Rob Scully to squeeze over in the corner. Jack Doyle was next to get on the score sheet when he showed serious pace to carve through the centre of Kilkenny ' s backs. Kilkenny would get a try of their own, when a lapse of concentration in Newbridge's defence led to a series of missed tackles in a scrambling defence.
Newbridge regained control and rounded off the day with two more tries complements of Jordan Nolan and Daniel O Connor, one of which was converted by Jack Doyle. The game finished with a scoreline of 27 - 7 to Newbridge. Players that stood out were Zachary O Reilly, Mark Moynihan, Thomas Sheedy (capt), Rob Scully, Muiris Cleary, David Higgins, Jack Doyle and Harry Quirke. Well done lads. A great season by all accounts……roll on the Junior League & Cup 2015-2016
