Two Leinster League Exits
It was a difficult week for rugby in Newbridge College with both Cup
teams exiting the Leinster School League at the knock out stages.
Our Seniors hosted Cistercian College Roscrea at the College and although Newbridge dominated both territory and possession for the majority of the game, Roscrea scored close to the end to won 22 20.
Our Junior team bowed our of this year's Leinster School Junior League after they were beaten by a talented Pres Bray side in Donnybrook on Wednesday. We took an early lead through an Andrew Carroll penalty but Pres Bray stormed back with two tries for a halftime lead of 14:3. In truth Newbridge could have defended a little better as we still looked dangerous when we were in possession. Indeed, Adam Larkin Smithers was very unlucky not to score didn't he last play of the half when he was bundled into touch. In the second half, Pres scored their third try and then added a penalty through their superb kicker Cian Murphy, son of Ireland kicking coach Richie. Newbridge faced an uphill struggle now but actually played very well for the remainder of the game. Paddy Taylor suddenly found some space and looked extremely dangerous, ably supported by John Collins and Harry Farrell. Larkin Smithers scored what was a consolation try with 8 minutes left to leave the final score 24 8 to Pres Bray. We wish them the very best in the final.HOCKEY
Minor C 1 V Templecarraig 2
The Minor Cs headed up to Templecarraig for their third league game of the season. They are an enthusiastic group of girls who train very hard. There are a few beginners on this team who deserve credit for slotting in so well. Newbridge were unlucky with all the attack we had to find ourselves down 2-0 at half time. After a chat with their coach they came out much better in the 2nd half. They created attack after attack with our midfield of Zoe Nolan, Isabelle Horan, Skye Harkin and Kate Mc Carney supporting our forwards to create lots of chances. Eventually we got the score we deserved with a goal from Lucy Whyte from Zoe Nolan making a lovely run into the circle and laying the ball off. They continued to attack and got a few short corners for their efforts but unfortunately time ran out for them. This team deserve a lot of praise for the progress they are making.
Team: Anna Leavy GK, Leah Duane, Nadia Abdulla, Sarah Whelan, Kate Mc Carney, Zoe Nolan, Kate Ryan, Skye Harkin, Gabriella Sanchez, Maddie Langan, Emer Pocock , Isabelle Horan, Lucy Whyte.ATHLETICS
