The first half saw Newbridge make numerous attacks on goal but were unlucky not to score. A fabulous run from Amy Nicole down the left wing and a cut through to secure the first score of the game. Mt Anville were quick on the counter attack and made sure to level the score with an in stoppable shot. The match went to penalties and then to sudden death with Newbridge coming up trumps and winning their spot in the final. Newbridge attacked well from the start and had some chances go narrowly wide. Their defensive work improved also with our back trio stepping up to the challenge. Our work rate was phenomenal with all nine players giving 100%. Both teams were well matched and neither side conceded, leaving the score nil all at full time. Penalties twice in day!! This time Newbridge College were unfortunately beaten 3 nil on penalties coming second place in the league. Silver medalists and proud as punch! Great day, well organised and happy bunch of hard working 13 year olds. A special mention to our fab goalie Cara who was excellent and showed great bravery.
Congratulations to the Newbridge College Equestrian Club today for the brilliant results at the All Ireland Interschools Hunter Trials Championships held on Saturday 25th March.
The very fast team of Amy Carroll, Emily O'Brien and Sophie Carroll have now taken the title of All Ireland Hunter Trials Champions representing Newbridge College. It is 4 years since we took this title and with over 40 teams represented this is a fantastic result. The team of Rachel Ross, Conor Cassidy and Charlie O'Dwyer took 2nd place with a clear round coming in second after our winning team.
Emily O Brien then went on to take the Individual Senior Title, with Amy Carroll coming 7th.
In the Junior competition we were again represented well with Niamh Flinter taking 2nd in a super fast round with Sophie Carroll only one second behind taking 3rd and Leah Ross taking 7th place.
We also had Alanna Kelly, and Niamh Behan competing in the junior catagory and they both had brilliant rounds. This is a great achievement for the club and a super reward for all the hard work the riders and their parents put in every week. Lots more silverware for the school trophy cabinets.
