Senior 2nds v St Michael’s
The Senior 2nd XV headed to leafy Ailsbury Road this week for a game against St. Michael's.
The conditions were going to test everyone as for the second Wednesday in a row persistent rain was the order of the day. A tight first half saw the hosts take a ten point lead into the break with the score 15-5. Tom Rynne coordinated the College defense well, Jack Banahan carried hard and Ruairi Finan and Ethan Lyons both tactically kicked well. Ryan Leahy put huge pressure on the Dublin side in the lineout stealing three lineouts and forcing a number of overthrows. The College came close to scoring 10 minutes into the second half but knocked on close to the line. But as the game wore on the physicality of the St. Michael's side told and scores late on saw them run out 34-5 winners. The game saw a number of positives but also a number of work-ons for the side. Other notable mentions for Zack O'Reilly and Cormac Stopes.
Inters v Clongowes
Our Inters hosted Clongowes in two games on Wednesday. In the A game, we were up against a very strong Clongwowes team who had plenty of danger and strength throughout their side. In truth, they bossed the first half and led 32 nil at the break but not primarily down to being the stronger side. We didn’t show the same level of hard work and commitment that our vistitors did throughout the 30 mins. In the second half, we showed much more of what is expected from a Newbridge College team and scored three tries. The stand out players on a difficult day were Paddy Stapleton, Fionn Ennis and Cael Chanders.
Junior C 33 St Michael’s 50; Inter B 10 Clongowes 32.
