Sports Roundup May 10

ATHLETICS
Congratulations to the Senior and Intermediate athletes on winning 34 medals altogether at the South Leinsters.

There were some outstanding performances. Every athlete gave of their best and should be very proud of themselves. The majority  of these runners now go on to the Leinsters on the 19th & 22nd May in Santry.   The results are as follows:
U.16 relay – 1st – Katie Berney, Claire Healion, Amy Downes, Brid Conlan.
U.16 boys relay – 2nd –Billy Delaney, Joe Darcy, Ivan Briody, Jack Briody.
U.17 girls relay – 2nd – Aileen Kyne, Clara Berney, Aileen Kyne, Rachael Smyth.
U.19 girls relay – 3rd – Sarah Kyne, Fionnuala Bergin, Louise Murphy, Shannyn Brogan.
U.19 boys relay – 2nd – Sam Murray, Rob O Conor, Phil O Neill, Billy Delaney.
U.16 long jump – 2nd Amy Downes & 3rd Clara Berney.
U.16 shot – 3rd – Hugh O Donnell.
U.16 200m – 2nd Maeve Conlan.
U.17 -1st Rachael Smyth.
U.17 1st in 800m & 400m – Eoin Murphy.
U.16 200m – 2nd Billy Delaney.
U.19 hurdles – 2nd Fionnuala Bergin & 3rd Mary Ellen Hynes.
U.17 300m – 2nd Racael Smyth.
U.17 long Jump – 3rd Aileen Kyne.

Congratulations to the Minor and Junior athletes on their excellent performances at the South Leinsters on Wednesday last. 18 medals in total were won. Many of these athletes now go on to the Leinsters on the 19th May in Santry. The results are as follows:
Amy Downes – 3rd in 300m hurdles.
Fionnuala Bergin – 1st 400m hurdles.
Richard Hyland – 2nd 400m hurdles.
Charlie Dardis – 2nd  800m & 1st  80m hurdles.
Barry Finan – 2nd  800m.
Justin Deane – 1st shot putt.
Katie Berney – 2nd 80m.
Claire Healion 2nd  1100m.
Mike Healion 2nd  1500m.
Minor girls relay – 3rd – Katie Berney, Nicki Dowling, Aoife O Neill, Aoife Ruthledge.
Junior boys Relay 2nd – Paddy Kyne, Justin Deane, Philip Ryan, Jack Maguire.


TRIANGULAR 2010
This year’s triangular event is currently taking place between Newbridge, Clongowes and the Cadet school.  After 4 events the standings are Newbridge 34.5 Clongowes 40.5 Cadets 27.  We won the soccer and the basketball events, were second in the swimming and third in the gaelic football.  Best of luck to our golfers and athletes who compete this coming week.

GAELIC FOOTBALL
Well done to the Under-14 Gaelic Football team and their coach Mr.King on retaining the Fr.Leahy Trophy yesterday. Newbridge beat Roscrea and Glenstal in the group stages and went on to beat Rockwell in the final.
