Welcome back to another rollercoaster year of Newbridge College sporting highs and hopefully only a few lows.
Congratulations to all of our outgoing 6th years on their leaving cert results and we wish them all the very best in the future. Its been far too long since any of our teams took to their respective sporting arenas and here’s hoping for as much success as we achieved last year.
Our Inters travelled to Roscrea to play three games. Sixty two boys travelled down and all got to play their part in what was a success first outing of the season. The first half of the A game was very close with new second year Jake Howlett scoring very early on before Roscrea made it 7 all before halftime. We played better in the second half and tries from Aubrey O’Mahony and Jake Howlett again saw us win by 21 points to 7. Others to impress were Oisin Larkin and Jimmy O’Brien. Our B Team were winners on a score line of 29:14 while our C team won 19:10.
Senior 2nd V Kilkenny 10-10
Well done to the Ellers on winning the Kilkenny blitz. There were 36 matches played and the Ellers won 27 lost 5 and there were 4 draws.
Some of our senior players have been training with Leinster teams over the summer and have done very well. Peter Osbourne and Michael Brown are both involved on the U19’s squad. Unfortunately Michael has sustained a knee injury which will keep him out of the inter-provincial series. Peter played against Munster on Saturday and kicked a penalty and two conversions in a 27:11 victory in Thomond Park.
Colin Grant has been training with the Leinster U18’s throughout the summer. He played a part in the schools V's youths game in Donnybrook in August and won 24 to 14. He also travelled to Cardiff two weeks ago for the game against Cardiff Blues. Leinster won 27 to 11 and Colin played his part, having been introduced in the second half.
Robbie Mullen and Ed Wynne have also been training with the Leinster U17’s squad.
And finally congratulations to Sam Coghlan-Murray who has been invited to join the Leinster Rugby Academy and also to James Tracy who has been invited into the Sub-Academy. We wish them both the very best in the rugby futures.
Congratulations to Conor & Eoin O’Hehir who are representing Naas Golf Club in the Semi-final of the Irish Junior Cup next Wednesday.
Congratulations and best wishes to Lindsay Whelan who has been selected as part of a team representing Ireland to compete in the wakeboarding section of Topolino competition in Italy.
Congratulations to Ciara Conaty who has made the U16 Leinster hockey panel.
