Here we all go again for another year of fun and excitement in the Newbridge College sporting arena.
We hope everyone is well rested and whether it be rugby, hockey, athletics, horseriding, soccer or any other sport, we look forward to seeing you there cheering on the black and whites!
Our Rugby season started last weekend when both our Juniors and Seniors played in the annual Pres Bray blitz’s. The Seniors did very well to reach the final of the 7’s Plate competition while our Juniors reached the Cup final of the 10’s only to be beaten by the hosts.
The Junior team then got the official season off to a flying start on Wednesday, fixing mistakes and righting the wrongs of the Pres Bray 10’s tournament last Sunday. The tough encounter with Kilkenny College didn’t transpire but there were still many positives to take from the match. Jake Howlett and Jimmy O’ Brien settled back into their team, following their involvement with the Juniors last year and the team also welcomed a number of 2nd years, namely Tom Berney, Tom O’ Neill and Ruairi Cleary. Every player involved really contributed to the win, from Luke Menton being strong in the air at lineout time, Oisin Larkin strong going forward and Ian Caffrey managing the backline very well. The half-time score was 50 nil in favour of the homeside and the scores came from Jake Howlett, Ian Caffrey, Ruairi Cleary, Tom Dore and Will Mc Donald. Both Ian and Ruairi adding to the tally with 5 conversions between them. The forwards managed to get on the scoresheet in the 2nd half with a try each from Luke Menton and Ciaran Callan with Ruairi adding another try and 2 more conversions. Full time result.... 69 - nil.

All Senior Hockey players travelled to Loreto Foxrock on Wednesday the 7th of September to play three friendly Matches. The girls enjoyed the play without concern about the final result, and by the end of each game we were competing well, and only beaten by a single score in two of the matches and a nil all draw in the other.
The Coaches had an opportunity to plan a training programme for the season and start the selection process for the three teams. Coaches and players are looking forward to the season 2011/2012
