Summer of Success for Luke Morris
Having completed his Junior Certificate examinations in June, Newbridge
College Student, Luke Morris rounded off a very successful summer of
sporting achievment on Sat 9th August, by
anchoring the Irish U16 Mixed 4x100m relay team to a new games record in the Celtic Games International Athletics Match, which this year was held in Morton Stadium, in Dublin. He also finished second in the individual 200m event.
Earlier in the season, Luke captured the Leinster Schools U16 200m individual title, and running for Newbridge Athletics Club in national competition, in a two-man contest with Wexford’s David McDonald, he won the Leinster 100m title, finished second in the U16 200m, and then at National Level, reversed those results, finishing a close second in the 100m but winning the 200m National title, which in turn led to representative honours for the second year in succession. Luke’s plans for the upcoming season include a potential move up to 400m, with the intention of making the 4x400m relay team for next year’s U18 Celtic Games, to be held in Glasgow, as well as aiming for schools honours at Intermediate Level.
