The Newbridge College Junior A hockey team open their league campaign with a tough away assignment

The Newbridge College Junior A hockey team opened their league campaign with a tough away assignment to Alexandria college last Wednesday. Newbridge started the match with a winning mentality and proceeded to dominate their opponents, displaying sublime passing and impressive movement off the ball.

Katie O'Sullivan forced their keeper into making a fine save after 20 minutes and Megan Sutcliffe and Muireann Kavanagh were instrumental in creating numerous other chances.  While Ciara Reynolds and Anna Kavanagh were very solid in defense restricting Alexandria to only one half chance on Alice Cleary's untroubled goal.  Alas this turned out to be a game of two halves and Alex upped their performance in the 2nd half and were  rewarded with two well taken goals.  Both Katie O'Sullivan and Una Delahunt were unlucky not to get on the score sheet in reply after 2 very promising attacks by Newbridge.  This game was definitely a step up in class from Minor hockey last year and these girls certainly showed their coach Mr. Falvey that they have the ability and desire to compete at this level. The future looks very promising indeed.
