07/08 has been a great season for both the Senior Girl’s and the Second Year Girl’s Basketball teams. The Senior Girls began their campaign in September. After four straight wins against Trim, Ardscoil Athy, Colaiste Lorcain, Castledermot and CPC Kilcullen, they met Tullamore in the Regional Final and emerged with the Midland League Div. C Senior Girls’ Title. They progressed to the All-Ireland Quarter Final Playoffs in Carrickmacross where they beat Kings Hospital, but lost to The Louis Monaghan. Five girls on this team will be able to play on the Senior team again next year.
The Second Year Girls began their campaign in February. They beat Trim, Castledermot and Kilcock and went on to beat Templemore in the Regional Final claiming the Midland League Div. C Second Year Girls’ Title. From there the team went to Sligo to play in the All-Ireland Playoffs. They won their Pool by beating Pres Mitchelstown, Eureka Kells and the Holy Family Newbridge. They progressed to the Semi Final and beat Donegal town. They were defeated by Caherciveen in the Final. It was an incredible season for this team who are delighted to be All-Ireland Runner-up Div C Second Year Girls’ Champions.
In the ‘08/’09 season Coach Carol Osborne will hope to have four Girls’ Basketball Teams competing, namely First Years, Second Years, Cadets and Seniors, in the Basketball Ireland League Competitions.
This team began their campaign in February. The girls had only one game to play in their Pool. After a slow start the girls were down 10 points by halftime. The never stopped trying and with a minute left they were within one basket of the girls from Trim. Unfortunately they remained one basket behind at fulltime so that was the end of their season. A lot of work will be done with this squad from Sept-Dec ’08 to have them ready for February ’09.
