Annual Henry Flanagan Memorial Concert

The annual Henry Flanagan Memorial Concert is on Wednesday, 25 May, at 8.00pm.

Five choirs will take part, and the accomplished organist is the internationally acclaimed Gerard Gillen.

The choirs include Nas na Ri Singers, who will sing music that has featured in recent popular movies and tv shows! Great stuff. Nas na Ri are fresh from their latest triumph, in a packed pavilion in Punchestown last Saturday night.

The Aquinas Singers, set up by the late Dominican maestro, Henry Flanagan, will sing as they always do, and give new slants on great classics (including Palestrina).

The concert will also involve the Cathedral Choir of Kildare Cathedral, who have continued to blossom and produce that iconic Anglican Cathedral sound we love from Royal Weddings!

St Conleth's Choir is also due to perform, and this will be wonderful - so many local men and women singing for the sheer pleasure of it!

And the recent revelation has been the newly-formed (2008) Newbridge Chamber Choir, who will give fresh wings to classics by Bach, Saint-Saens and Bruckner. Together with organist Gerard Gillen and tenor solo Eugene Gavin, this is a highlight waiting to happen!!

And we will also hear delights written for the organ itself, including tear-jerker Andante by Franz Liszt and the peaceful but memorable Postlude for Compline by Jehan Alain, who died in World War II at the tender age of 29.

This concert has become an annual highlight, and takes place in the College Chapel, on the banks of the Liffey.
