It was with great pride that all associated with Newbridge College watched the Ireland v Italy game in the 2008 RBS Six Nations International in Croke Park. There was 74 minutes on the clock when Tony Buckley came on as replacement for John Hayes to bring to four, the number of Newbridge College past pupils who were representing their country on the field at the same time. Geordan Murphy started the match with Bernard Jackman and Jamie Heaslip coming on just before Tony to bring the Newbridge College tally to four. Two weeks later it got even better for the Newbridge men as Bernard, Jamie and Geordan all started against France in the Stade de France, Paris while Tony was again used as a substitute in the second half. This amazing achievement occurred once before back in 1977 when Tom Grace, Freddie McLennen, Mick Quinn, Robbie McGrath and Ronan Kearney all stepped out to represent their country. All involved in Newbridge College rugby can be very proud of these fine players and we wish them every success in their future international rugby careers.
